Community Service: At the Virginia Lottery, we do more in our community than simply sell lottery tickets. In addition to generating nearly $1.6 million per day for public education, Virginia Lottery employees also volunteer for Thank a Teacher Community Service Projects. This community outreach initiative brings employees together from across the state to provide a variety of services, including landscaping, cafeteria duty and classroom assistance, for some schools. The success of our Thank a Teacher program has inspired more and more Lottery employees to get involved with this rewarding experience.

We want our employees to be on top of their game. So to make sure that our team is in tip-top shape, the Virginia Lottery offers the Commonwealth of Virginia health benefits program, including Employee Assistance Programs. In addition, we provide sick, family and personal leave; short-term and long-term disability benefits as well as a long-term care program for our full-time employees.
We offer basic life insurance coverage at no cost to the employee. Employees are eligible to purchase additional optional coverage for employee and family members.
Lottery employees can also receive a variety of other optional benefits including the Voluntary Group Long-Term Care Insurance, medical and dependent care flexible spending accounts, wellness program, tuition assistance, and options for flexible work schedule and teleworking.
Virginia Lottery employees can reap the rewards of hard work for years to come. Full-time salaried employees will automatically receive a membership in the Virginia Retirement System (VRS). VRS provides a hybrid retirement plan and defined benefit retirement plans. Plan eligibility for each is determined by VRS membership date and employee type. In each plan, the Lottery makes employer contributions that fund defined retirement benefits and members contribute five percent of their own semi-monthly salaries on a pre-tax basis to their individual member accounts.
Professional growth and development is an ongoing activity and is required to be effective in our ever-changing environment. The Lottery provides many options for employees to create personalized professional development plans. These opportunities include e-learning, cohort programs for leaders at all levels, and managerial development programs.
At the Virginia Lottery, we collaborate and encourage our people to work and play as a team. Many of our departments hold annual team building retreats. Retreats in the past have included community service and other social events that help employees build communication, trust, and understanding among their co-workers.
Working for the Virginia Lottery has its perks. In order to promote and sell our products, we participate in several fun outdoor activities throughout the year, including festivals, races, and sporting events. We also enjoy getting together to celebrate company milestones and have celebrations to recognize service anniversaries.
